Positions available at the Australian Centre for Visual Technologies

The Australian Centre for Visual Technologies has multiple vacancies for post-doctoral researchers within a range of areas in Computer Vision, Robotics and Machine Learning.  Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with the large team of researchers in Adelaide where ACVT is based, as well as with other leading national and international academic and industrial partners.  Research areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Big Data in Computer Vision
  • Simultaneous Localisation And Mapping (SLAM)
  • Robot Vision
  • Scene and Video Segmentation and Understanding
  • Video Surveillance and Real-time Object Detection
  • Large-scale Object Retrieval and Image Retrieval
  • Deep Learning, and Feature Learning
  • Generic Image Classification

Researchers will be supervised by members of the ACVT, including Prof. Ian Reid, Prof. Anton van den Hengel, A/Prof Chunhua Shen,  and Dr Gustavo Carneiro and will join a large, and growing, group of world-class researchers working in this rapidly developing area.

Duration: 2 years initially, but with the option to extend

The Australian Centre for Visual Technologies (ACVT), located at the University of Adelaide,  is the largest computer vision and machine learning research groups in Australia.  Based in Adelaide, we currently number over 50 members including academics, research staff and students.  We work on a mixture of fundamental and commercially oriented research projects in computer vision and machine learning, and have a strong track record of publication in the top venues.

Each successful applicant must have:

  • a PhD in a relevant discipline
  • a background in computer vision, machine learning, or both
  • experience in C++, Python and/or Matlab
  • a good publication record commensurate with experience
  • fluency in written and spoken English
  • the ability to work individually and as a member of a broader team

Salary: University Level B (AU$83,620 – 93,027 depending on qualifications), plus benefits. Some funding for relocation may be available.  The ACVT has a generous conference attendance funding scheme for papers accepted to the major conferences.
