This report analyses the results of the 1987-88 National Oral Health Survey of Australia (NOHSA) and provides estimates for key oral health status indicators relating to health targets for 2000. It also statistically evaluates differences in indicators between the States and Territories and between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas.

The key oral status indicators presented are: caries experience in deciduous dentition; caries experience in permanent dentition; edentulism; and metropolitan comparisons for edentulism, missing teeth and prevalence of untreated decay.
