National Science Week – August 12-20

The annual National Science Week is here!

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of Science and Technology. Running each year in August, it features more than 1000 events around Australia, including those delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres. These events attract a wide audience from children to adults, and science amateurs to professionals. Over one million people participate in science events across the nation.

This year’s theme for schools is Future Earth! Future Earth celebrates an initiative that involves a global community of tens of thousands of world-class researchers, projects and institutes brought together around an international research agenda focusing on a 2025 vision that addresses eight key challenges to global sustainability.

Science Week have released free online resources for Schools, including a comprehensive learning and teaching booklet, linked to the Australian Curriculum, that supports teachers to bring Science and Technology into the classroom under the umbrella of the Future Earth theme.

There are hundreds of science events (many free!) across the country, so make sure you have a look at what is happening in your local area on the Events Page.

At CSER, we’ve prepared a free resource that highlights classroom projects and activities that link Digital Technologies with the Future Earth theme. We hope that you find these of use! Feel free to try these in your classroom and let us know how you go! Tag #csermoocs and #NatSciWeek
