The Adelaide Law School and the EU Centre for Global Affairs at the University of Adelaide invite you to a Public Seminar on 9 May 2017 to celebrate Europe Day and mark the 60th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the treaty that created the European Economic Community (EEC).
An interdisciplinary panel of academic speakers will discuss the importance of the Treaty of Rome and “What is the Future of the European Union?’ in light of the forthcoming exit of Britain from the European Union.
Other topics for discussion include the historic and legal background to establishment of the EEC; the future of European identity and EU citizenship; the way in which politics at the nation-state level is affecting the EU; the European sovereign debt crisis; and the European migration crisis.
Guests will be entertained by Hong Kong based theatre group, The Shadow Players, who will present a preview of Moliere’s play, The Learned Ladies. The EU Centre will offer as a lucky door prize two tickets to the play to be performed in its entirety on Saturday 13 May at Nexus Arts, North Terrace.

Panelists
Jessica Viven-Wilksch, Lecturer, Law School, The University of Adelaide. Ms Viven-Wilksch is a lecturer EU Law at the Masters level, and her research focus is international commercial law.
Dr Benito Cao, Lecturer in Politics, The University of Adelaide. Dr Cao teaches a wide range of political subjects, and has published in the fields of pedagogy, political culture, environmental politics and citizenship studies including the book Environment and Citizenship (2015).
Dr Wayne Errington, Senior Lecturer in Politics and Public Policy and Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), Faculty of Arts, The University of Adelaide. Dr Errington’s research and teaching interests include democracy, parties, leadership and elections.
Dr Tiziana Torresi, Lecturer, International Politics, The University of Adelaide. Dr Torresi has written extensively on migration (in particular temporary migration) global justice and gender and development.
Associate Professor Felix Patrikeeff, International Politics, The University of Adelaide. Associate Prof Patrikeef has published extensively in the field of international relations and foreign policy.
