Stella Crawford, one of the editors of the University’s student magazine On Dit explains why we need ‘women only’ spaces in Lip Magazine. She refers to Elle Dit, the once-a-year women’s edition of the magazine, written exclusively by women, and why ‘women only’ spaces constantly need to be defended. Dr Dee Michell from our Gender Studies and Social Analysis discipline comments on the article:
“For me, Elle Dit isn’t about segregation, it’s an annual reminder that gender inequity continues despite many positive changes, eg, there is a gender pay gap, men’s sport is more highly valued, and there is a significant disparity in favour of academic men at the University of Adelaide. I hope the now annual debate about Elle Dit contributes to constructive changes, but I suspect we’ll need our annual reminder for some years to come.”
