Writing Centre Events

Writing Center at the University is organising events throughout the Semester 2 2017! Please check it out.

Join us for Communicate with Confidence sessions!

Two Writing Mentors from the Writing Center and several volunteers provide fun activities and coaching around how to communicate with confidence within any academic setting. In Semester 2, we will run these sessions on Mondays from 3-5 pm in the Hub Central Seminar room. It is okay if you cannot be there for the whole two hours – you can leave early or arrive late if you have a class in between. We’d love to see you there.

Join us for Word Games!

Come by Hub Central, Level 4, every Thursday from 12-1 pm. You’ll spot our booth next to our big ‘Word Games’ banner. Friendly Writing Center staff and volunteers will be there playing word games. Come along to build your vocabulary, meet new friends, and join in on some fun competition. Lollies provided.

Join us for Shut Up and Write!

Every first Thursday of the month (3 August, 7 September, 5 October, 2 November) from 9 – 10 am and from 4 – 5 pm, we will be holding ‘Shut Up and Write’ sessions in the Writing Center, on Level 3 Hub Central.

What is Shut Up and Write? It is an international movement for undergraduate and postgraduate students to avoid distraction and focus on their writing, while being surrounded by friendly people who are also hard at work.

What will happen? You’ll introduce yourself to the group, write for 20 minutes, and then take a five minute break and have a chat with the person next to you. Then you’ll write again for another uninterrupted 20 minutes. And that’s it. Join us and see how much you can achieve in focused bursts of writing!
