Adelaide Law School Corporate Law students’ success at ACUR

As part of the Small Group Discovery Experience in their Corporate Law class in 2016, Georgia Brazenall, Julia Grigonis-Gore, and Joe Ho worked together to complete a research assignment on ‘Illegal Phoenixing within Australia’. “We never imagined this would be the start of an invaluable and truly exciting research journey,” the students said, after that assignment was developed into a presentation and paper which won the Prize for Best Paper at the 6th Australasian Conference for Undergraduate Research (‘ACUR’) held in 2017.

“Following discussions with our research supervisor Dr Beth Nosworthy, we submitted our revised research paper to ACUR via the DVCA Events Team to be considered for presentation at the Conference, which would be taking place at The University of Adelaide.

We were excited and humbled to have our paper accepted and receive an invitation to present at ACUR. Our Conference preparation involved addressing feedback provided by the ACUR research panel and adapting our research paper to a presentation format.

On 27th September we had the privilege of presenting our research paper, entitled ‘Illegal Phoenix Activity Within Australia: An Analysis of Legal and Ethical Issues.’ It was exciting to work as a team, combining our knowledge and skill sets to contribute to the growing body of Undergraduate research being investigated by students from The University of Adelaide. It was also incredible learning about so many new and exciting areas of research from around Australia!

In addition to presenting our paper at Conference, we were also honoured to be awarded the ACUR Prize for Best Paper 2017.”

The $500 prize, courtesy of Studiosity and HERDSA, was presented by Pro-Vice Chancellor – Student Learning Professor Philippa Levy, and the paper is now being considered for publication.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to ACUR for considering our paper and extending us the opportunity to present at the Conference. We would also like to sincerely thank our supervisor Dr Beth Nosworthy for all of the invaluable advice and encouragement provided along our research journey.”

The Adelaide Law School and the ROCIT Research Unit offer their warmest congratulations to Georgia, Julia and Joe, and wish them well with the remainder of their studies here at the Adelaide Law School.
