Open Access Week Seminar Series
Staff and students of University of Adelaide are invited to attend one or more of four seminars during Open Access Week 2011.
“Open Access” to information – the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need – has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted.
Title: Open Access – what’s it all about
Date: Tuesday 25 October, 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Audience: University of Adelaide staff and students interested in learning more about the nature of Open Access.
The seminar series starts on Tuesday with a general overview of what Open Access is all about. We’ll explore some of the terminology used (Green and Gold OA, free versus libre OA), the impetus behind the movement and the potential benefits, current models of open access publishing and what University of Adelaide is doing to support this movement.
Title: Your rights as an author
Date: Wednesday 26 October, 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Audience: Current and potential University of Adelaide authors of scholarly works.
Wednesday’s seminar focuses on copyright issues connected with publishing journal articles and conference papers and includes advice on how you can best control the rights you have to your scholarly works and maximise the impact of these publications.
Title: Open Data – access to and re-use of data
Date: Thursday 27 October, 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Audience: University of Adelaide staff and students interested in learning more about the nature of Open Data.
On Thursday the seminar will be all about Open Data. What it is, where it is, how you can find it and use it, why data should be open and some interesting case studies and examples.
Title: Adelaide Research & Scholarship – new and improved features
Date: Friday 28 October, 3:00pm – 4:00pm
Audience: Current and potential University of Adelaide authors of scholarly works as well as administrative staff with some responsibility for managing publications in their school, discipline or research centre.
The final seminar concentrates on specific features of the University of Adelaide’s Institutional Repository, Adelaide Research & Scholarship. Features to be highlighted include how to embed your publications list on your staff directory page, statistics for views and downloads, exporting metadata for use in other applications and how to submit your accepted manuscripts.
Each seminar will start with a 30 minute presentation followed by an opportunity for Q&A and discussion.
