PLPRU members the Hon. Catherine Branson QC, Associate Professor Laura Grenfell, Professor Geoffrey Lindell AM, Professor Emerita Rosemary Owens AO and Associate Professor Matthew Stubbs, have written a submission to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights inquiry into the Commonwealth Racial Discrimination Act 1975. The Joint Committee has been asked by the Attorney-General to report on the following matters:
- “whether the operation of Part IIA of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) (including sections 18C and 18D) impose unreasonable restrictions on freedom of speech; and
- whether the complaints-handling procedures of the Australian Human Rights Commission should be reformed.”
The Committee is due to report on 28 February 2017.
