Roger Byard

Professor Roger Byard is currently the Marks Professor of Pathology at the University of Adelaide and Senior Specialist Forensic Pathologist at Forensic Science SA. He is also a paediatric pathologist and has published, or has in press, over 450 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Byard qualified in medicine in Australia in 1978 (University of Tasmania MBBS, BMedSci) and became a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada in 1982 (LMCC).  He was a Foundation Member of the Australian College of Legal Medicine and a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Forensic Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians (FFFLM), and has a certification in Family Medicine from the Canadian College of Family Physicians (CCFP).  He has a specific interest in sudden infant and childhood death and has published or has in press over 450 papers, 40 chapters and several books.  He coedited the four volume Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine. (Elsevier/Academic Press, Amsterdam, 2005), wrote Sudden Death in the Young (3rd ed). (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2010), and is the Editor-in-Chief of Forensic Science Medicine and Pathology.
