Indigenous Health Forum

A Research Tuesdays special event

It’s well documented that Indigenous Australians experience profound inequalities in health compared with their non-Indigenous counterparts. Consequently, a vast amount of research is being conducted nation-wide across the full range of Indigenous health needs.

The University of Adelaide is playing a leading role in this effort, and in this Forum we’ll discuss a number of our latest projects and findings, including:

  • Understanding the links between depression and chronic disease, and the key drivers for improving chronic disease outcomes.
  • Oral health interventions, including motivational interviewing during pregnancy, early childhood fluoride varnishes, oral health literacy and periodontal interventions to improve cardiovascular disease risk factors.
  • “Patient journey mapping” tools that assists both patients and staff to identify gaps in care across multiple health sites, and then improve communication, collaboration and coordination for better health outcomes.
