The members of the ACVT have been working on recovering shape information from image sets for more than 15 years. Originally stereo and optical flow were the focus, but more recently we have been working a wide range of projects from interactive 3D modelling from image sets to modelling plants from images taken within the Plant Accelerator. Much of the work undertaken in this area has been aimed at making the process of 3D content creation much simpler and accessible. The concept of “User Created Content” is key driver in the research. This has application in a broad range of markets including media and entertainment, simulation, advanced manufacturing etc. This work also important to the area of Augmented Reality.

ISMAR prize

The paper Real-time Modelling for AR Applications won second prize in the best paper awards at the International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality 2010 in Seoul, Korea. The paper describes a method for generating 3D models of objects which requires minimal user interaction.  The motivation was the desire to allow users to create special […]

Combined shape and appearance descriptors for visual object recognition (DP0988439)

ACVT has been awarded a 3 year ARC Discovery Grant valued at $200,000. The CIs are Prof. Anton van den Hengel and Dr Anthony Dick. The quantity of video generated each year is expanding rapidly. This increasing volume of visual information means that it is more likely that any particular event will be recorded, but […]

Statistical Methods of Model Fitting and Segmentation in Computer Vision (DP0878801)

Prof. David Suter (then of Monash University) and Professor A Bab-Hadiashar have been awarded a 4 year ARC Discovery Grant valued at $422,000. Electronic sensors such as cameras and lasers can provide a rich source of information about the position, shape, and motion of objects around us. However, to extract this information in a reliable, […]
