Laura’s submerged in sound waves

At 29, mechanical engineer Dr Laura Brooks already has a world of experience under her belt.

The University of Adelaide Fulbright Scholar has a CV that most professionals take years to acquire.

It includes two years at the world-renowned Scripps Institute of Oceanography in San Diego, researching underwater sound transmission; a postdoctoral appointment at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand; and a two-year lecturing stint at the University of Adelaide in the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Just four years after completing her PhD, Laura is now working on development activities for Australia’s next generation of submarines as a senior development engineer for ASC-owned company, Deep Blue Tech Pty Ltd.

In this video she discusses her career path, the relevance of her work to Australia’s defence and environmental sectors and some advice for new graduates.
