ADELAIDE 2050 URBAN FUTURES
Urban Design Exhibition
This exhibition presents selected work from the final year Urban Design studio taken by students in the M.Planning (Urban Design) program at the School of Built Environment at the University of Adelaide.
Led by A/Prof Julian Worrall and David Cooke (of newly established urban design consultancy City Collective), the studio, entitled “Adelaide 2050,” sought to project, shape, and visualise an urban future for Adelaide in 2050. Students developed a projected scenario incorporating environmental, demographic, economic, and technological trends; then elaborated the urban implications and design opportunities of this scenario on Adelaide’s urban core. The resulting proposals span the full spectrum of urbanism’s concerns – including landscape and ecology; land-use and programmatic mix; built form and housing; transport and movement; landmarks and public space; and social and cultural patterns – while their visualisation has involved the production of an impressive new 1:1000 scale model of Adelaide’s “square mile”.
Taken together, these proposals constitute a collective vision for Adelaide’s medium-term future. We invite you to join us in celebrating the results.
