Japanese Media Industries and Cultures – Study Tour

The Department of Media is pleased to announce that final preparations are underway for our second Japanese study tour and applications will open soon. This study tour is a two-week intensive July Winter School (with some preparatory classes in Adelaide). Students travel to Kyoto to explore media and popular culture in Japan through a mix of lectures, workshops, and excursions. It is a chance to experience the Japanese film and TV industries, as well as offering insights into media production, games cultures and Japanese culture more broadly.

This tour has been developed by the School of Humanities (Department of Media) in conjunction with the College of Image Arts and Sciences at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. It takes place during Japan’s renowned Gion Festival, an exciting time to be in Kyoto.

Limited places are available in this course. Please note that a competitive entry process applies. Eligibility is limited to Bachelor of Media students who have successfully completed 12 units of Level 1 Media courses (or equivalent). Students need to have a GPA of 5.0 or above, and preference may be given to those with no previous study abroad experience.

Costs for the program and accommodation will finalised soon. You will need to cover airfares and additional expenses such as food and beverages, local transport and weekend activities.

Students may be eligible for up to AUD$7,500 in OS-HELP.

This course adds to the suite of international study options for Media students, which includes Exchange Study at one of our partner universities or intensive courses offered through the Australian Institute for Mobility (AIM) Overseas program.

Further information and application details will shortly be available through Global Learning and the Department of Media website.
