Research: Exploring the Experience of Low-SES Students via Enabling Pathways

Staff from the Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the University of South Australia, have just published findings from a research report funded by the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education.

The report is entitled ‘Exploring the Experience of Low-SES Students via Enabling Pathways’, and was a qualitative investigation of the subsequent degree-level experience of students who enter university via the University Preparatory Program (University of Adelaide) and the Foundations Studies Program (UniSA).

Overall the report found that the experience of transitioning to University is not as rosy as a simple ‘social mobility’ narrative might suggest, and also that student identities and social positions are more multifaceted than many research approaches account for.
