Fracking – Past and Present

SPEAKER: Elinor Alexander (BSc Hons) -Director, Geology and Exploration Branch, Energy Resources Division, Department of Premier and Cabinet

WHEN: Monday 4 th September  2017   at 7:00 pm

WHERE: Ira Raymond Room, Barr Smith Library, Level 3

This presentation examines facts relating to the geology and engineering behind hydraulic fracture stimulation and how petroleum exploration and production activity is regulated in South Australia.  Numerous parliamentary and scientific inquiries in Australia, the UK and elsewhere have concluded that well regulated and responsibly implemented hydraulic fracture stimulations do not pose a serious threat to water resources.

South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s Energy Resources Division is the lead agency facilitating ecologically sustainable petroleum exploration and development.  The Division regulates petroleum exploration and production in the State including hydraulic fracture stimulation, a technique in use for over 40 years in the State with no harmful impacts.
