School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering seeks its next leading light

the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering (CEME) at the University of Adelaide is seeking a dynamic international leader for its next Head of School. Professor Martin Lambert, the current Head of School, recently announced that he is stepping down, after serving in the role for six of the past nine years.

The new Head of CEME will come into a school that is striving to enable humanity to thrive in dynamic environments. The school itself is thriving: It’s ranked in Top 3 of Australia’s engineering schools, and Top 40 in the world, by the Academic World Ranking of Universities. It has the highest rating available of ‘well above world class’ by the National Excellence in Research for Australia from the Australian Research Council.

With a diverse and award-winning research team, the CEME is renowned for tackling some of society’s most significant engineering challenges. These include

  • predicting risk and damage from extreme weather events,
  • pioneering a systems approach to optimising water infrastructure planning,
  • developing smart and sustainable building infrastructure, such as low carbon concretre
  • Safer drilling and construction methods in mines and large construction projects.

Partnering with industry is a core focus of CEME now, and will continue to be so into the future. A member of the Smart Cities Consortium, and a leading voice in projects with local utilities, the School is increasingly seeing its research applied in real world scenarios.

The future is looking bright for the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering at the University of Adelaide. As we enter the beginning of an unprecedented infrastructure boom, it’s only going to get better.

The University of Adelaide is seeking its next leading light for this critical leadership role. Could it be you?
