On June 4, 12 and 20, the Adelaide Compass Program invited the Confucius Institute to participate in its “Tentastic” outreach at the schools of Swallowcliffe Primary School, Mark Oliphant College and Augusta Park Primary School in Port Augusta.
In all approximately 350 students took part in activities learning about Chinese culture and language through writing out numbers using traditional Chinese calligraphy. Everybody enjoyed themselves greatly and the Confucius Institute’s teachers were all treated as celebrities by the children and even appeared in the local Port Augusta newspaper.
The key goal of Adelaide Compass is to show primary school students that university study is possible, practical and achievable for them. The Confucius Institute at Adelaide University is proud to be a working partner of Adelaide Compass in taking on the role of inspiring the next generation of university students to learn more about the country of one of Australia’s most strategic relationships: China.
“Using traditional Chinese brushes to write Chinese numbers is so cool!” – Primary school participant.
