With outstanding programming ability, the successful application should demonstrate determination, bravery, quality and speed. A clear thinker, you must be able to communicate your ideas through both spoken and written English. Problem-solving will be a strength and you’ll have a determination to clearly understand and tackle all problems faced by talking issues through with the team. You will need to create and foster a warm and supportive work environment and not be afraid to put your hand up if you don’t know the answer to a problem as well as the desire to find the solution.

Essential criteria for the role include:

  • degree in computer science, mathematics or similar
  • advanced knowledge of Java SE 7
  • modularisation (i.e. advanced use of object oriented patterns)
  • sound understanding of efficient algorithm design.

Desirable abilities include:

  • web applications:
  • HTML and CSS
  • JavaScript, AJAX
  • RESTful web services
  • agile development
  • working knowledge of SCM tools, especially Git
