In our upcoming AdelaideSBN event we will begin to zoom out to take a look at sustainability in built environments at an urban scale. While it is important that our individual buildings are designed and perform in a way which reduces ecological impact, some of the greatest potential leaps toward a sustainable future is at the city and neighbourhood level. We will be joined by Ehsan Sharifi, UniSA PhD candidate, and Stuart Pope, from the Adelaide City Council, to help spark some thoughts of how to approach sustainability at such a large scale.
Ehsan will dive into research he has been conducting about Urban Heat Island (UHI) Effect on Australian Cities and how UHI can influence comfort in public spaces and also carbon emissions in urban lifestyles. Stuart will discuss urban sustainability design principles the Adelaide City Council is looking to incorporate into their Urban Design Strategy.
