A Lecture by Professor Chris Beasley
Hosted by the Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender and the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (Europe 1100-1800)
A range of scholars have examined new prevailing modes of legitimate social interconnection in modern ‘western’/northern societies, which may be summarised as an overall shift to individualisation. However, such analyses often show a decidedly limited grasp of gendered power. This lecture employs a focus on masculinity and emotional bonds associated with care as a means to reconsider these accounts.
