Research 21 Public Lecture Series: “Food for thought: Changes in the global food system and how they could affect you” by Associate Professor Wendy Umberger

 

The Director of Global Food Studies Associate Professor Wendy Umberger will share her views on changes in the global food system and how these could impact us. Our global food systems are transitioning from production to consumption. Some of the consequences of these changes are changing diets, shopping behaviours and farmers’ welfare. There is also evidence of increasing concerns of consumers demanding for products with some ‘values’ that are related to social responsibility such as ‘enviromentally friendly’, ‘fair trade’, ‘locally grown’, ‘organic’. One of the major challenges is whether these changing consumer demand is translated into changes in the supply side as well as in the value chains.

Professor Umberger will address the above topics at the Inaugural Research 21 Public Lecture Series organised by Faculty of Professions:
