The WHS Regulations 2012 (SA) now only requires electrical testing for those items which are supplied through an electrical socket outlet and are used in an environment which is likely to result in damage to the equipment or a reduction in its expected life span (e.g. exposure to moisture, heat, vibration, mechanical damage, corrosive chemicals or dust).
In the March 2013 the University Health and Safety Committee (UHSC) considered a paper which suggested that the University implement a new testing regime in accordance with the WHS legislation.
Schools and Branches can now implement the changes to office/kitchen electrical testing requirements (before it is reflected in the revised HSW Plant/Equipment Handbook Chapter).
