HSW Handbook Consultation: Boating Operations

Human Resources have been working on a revised version of the Boating Operations chapter of the HSW Handbook.

Review and Feedback

The amendments are tracked in red –  1 – Draft 5 – Boating – 25 July 2017

Please review and provide any feedback/suggested amendments to the HSW Team using track changes before COB Friday 25 August 2017.

Key changes

  • The overarching responsibilities of the Head of School/Branch (outlined in 3.10.3.1) have been transferred to the Faculty Executive Manager/Research Technical Services Manager.
  • The Boating Operations Form (Appendix B) has been removed. This is replaced by an Off-Campus Activity Risk Assessment which can be accessed via the “Off Campus Activity (including Field Work)” information sheet.
  • The Emergency Procedures checklist (Appendix D) has been removed, as the procedures are not generic for every vessel.
(NB – There is still a requirement for specific Emergency Procedures to be defined as part of the application process for a Certificate of Operation, for each vessel.)
  • All references to incident reporting have been grouped together under a new section 3.10.4.
This section includes responsibilities for reporting both Marine incidents (to the Marine Safety Agency) and Notifiable incidents (to SafeWork SA).
