Indigenous Knowledge & Society – Welcome to Country and Opening of Course

Today the University of Adelaide was honoured to have Kaurna Elder Uncle Fred Agius perform a Welcome to Country for the official opening of the course Indigenous People, Country and Protocol. Uncle Fred welcomed the students to Kaurna Country, called upon ancestors to walk with them on their educational journey and encouraged the students to immerse themselves in the smoke from the sacred fire.

Over 110 students (International, domestic and Indigenous) enrolled in the course which will explore Indigenous knowledge systems as meticulous, valid, and essential in today’s modern world.  The old is now the new. Kaurna Elders, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members will add a unique and crucial component to the course in the way of guest lectures, involvement in field trips, and participation on the advisory panel.
