On Thursday 5th of April, we were privileged to welcome 55 students in Years 11 & 12, from 14 schools for Marni Wingku Senior. Marni Wingku has traditionally been run on the one day in September, however this year we decided to have two separate events that were tailored to the educational differences of the students.
Overall the day was a success with positive feedback from students and their teachers. The project team would like to thank the Wirltu Yarlu Student Ambassadors – Warra Pirrka Mankulankula for their assistance in welcoming the students on campus.
We cannot emphasise enough how significant it is having Wirltu Yarlu students at these type of events, as it reinforces to the high school students that they are not only welcome here, but that they too can rise to the challenge and see education as a realistic vehicle to improving the lives of their families and communities. Marni Wingku Junior will be run on Tuesday 18th September.
We are looking forward to welcoming over one hundred Years 8 – 10 students for this event and encourage any Wirltu students to consider volunteering as it is sure to be a great day for all.
