ME ‘N ME MATES is a show at the Adelaide Fringe Festival that celebrates Australian language and humour. An entertainment of Australian songs and stories in the style of a concert in the local hall, wool shed or pub; or singing and yarning around a campfire. Songs, stories, poems and yarns are presented authentically with dry, laconic humour and language in a relaxed way always respectful of our forbears and history. The works of Australia’s classic writers such as Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson and Slim Dusty lend themselves perfectly to live performance – the descriptions of characters and settings and the quality of the language flow over the audience in an intimate and engaging way. Good old bush songs about shearing, the weather, drinking, dogs and wandering, plus some original songs, are presented with simplicity and gusto accompanied by acoustic guitar, banjo, percussion, lager phone, mouth organ and spoons.
