As 2013 draws to a close, it marks the end of a two-year Johnson Winter & Slattery
scholarship awarded to Adelaide University law student Benjamin Papandrea.
Ben demonstrated outstanding academic achievement through 2011, but faced difficulties
meeting his education and living costs. He was chosen as the inaugural recipient of the
Johnson Winter & Slattery Law Scholarship and received support from JWS throughout
2012 and 2013.
When asked about being selected for the scholarship, Ben said he was honoured to be
chosen and that it allowed him to ‘concentrate wholly on his studies’.
Following the success of the initial scholarship, JWS’s commitment to the Scholarship is to
be continued and extended for a further four year period, allowing the next Scholarship to be
awarded to a student starting second year for the balance of a five year program.
John Keeves, Partner, said: “We are delighted to be able to support legal education at the
University of Adelaide, and assist students who might otherwise face financial difficulties.
JWS is very happy to extend our commitment for a further four years.”
The Johnson Winter & Slattery Law Scholarship provides $5,000 per year towards a
student’s education and living costs and is open to students who are Australian citizens or
permanent residents of Australia. The scholarship is a partnership between the University of
Adelaide and JWS to promote excellence in legal education, designed to support a
financially disadvantaged law student over four years of their undergraduate course. It
continues a longstanding relationship between JWS and the University’s Law School.
Students must be undertaking the Bachelor of Laws program of study at the University of
Adelaide on a full time basis as a Commonwealth supported student.
