Message from Dr Suzanne Le Mire, Dean of Law

I am delighted to step into the role of Dean of Law. The Law School is the flagship professional school at the University of Adelaide. I firmly believe what we do here, not least in educating the lawyers and policy makers of the future, but also in shaping the world around us, matters.

I had the privilege recently to attend an occasion hosted by the John Bray Alumni committee marking Dr John Keeler’s Australia Day honour, a Member of the Order of Australia, and he spoke of belief in our discipline. Our discipline is at the heart of what we do in the Adelaide Law School. We educate law students because we believe that drawing them into our discipline will enhance their responses to real problems and build their capacities to make positive change in the world around them. We conduct research because we see challenges and opportunities and we believe that law can contribute to their resolution. Law matters and lies at the core of what we do. As the activities below indicate, the Law School is a busy place and our academics and students are engaged in a variety of innovative intellectual, social and practical ventures. I look forward to working with the profession and other stakeholders to advance these and other initiatives in the year ahead.
