A public lecture on ‘Formal Record and Courtroom Reality in Medieval England‘ by Paul Brand, recently retired professor of English Legal History at the University of Oxford. Paul is the leading authority on the common law and common lawyers in England and Wales during the century after Magna Carta.
This lecture will draw upon already published research, including his four edited volumes of The Earliest English Law Reports for the Selden Society, and a study of The Origins of the English Legal Profession, while also foreshadowing material drafted for his volume III (1215-1307) of the Oxford History of the Laws of England.
