Building work in Barr Smith Library: Advance notice

Over the next few weeks, construction work on the Hughes Plaza Learning Hub will extend into Level 3 of the Barr Smith Library (the entry level), and this requires us to move a few things. Specifically:

  • the new books and journals display will move to the walls around the main stairs;
  • two self-check machines will move downstairs to Levels 1 and 2, adjacent to the main stairs (so you’ll be able to borrow your books before you come upstairs!)
  • the copy card recharge machine, account registration PC and public printer will all be moved to Level 3 North, adjacent to the lift;
  • some public PCs will move to Level 3 North.

These moves will allow the builders to remove the wall behind new books, in preparation for a new entrance to the Flentje lecture theatre. They will also be constructing a new wall in the main staircase to Level 4; this will require closure of the main stairs for up to a month. We will let you know nearer the time when that is going to happen, but it will mean using the northern stairs to gain access to the collections on Level 1 and 2.
