Listening to Wagner and Dukas at the Royal Academy of Music

6th of February, 2019 at the Royal Academy of Music

Today’s first activity was listening to an orchestral wind/percussion sectional with the Royal Academy of Music. The Orchestra rehearsed Dukas’ ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ as well as Wagner’s ‘Mastersingers’. Both pieces sounded great at the beginning of the rehearsal, but were still rehearsed and improved throughout the morning. The Dukas was very well played with small technical errors, which were fixed and practised throughout the first half of the rehearsal, and was stuck in several people’s heads for the rest of the day. The Wagner was slightly more rigid than the Dukas, but it’s majestic brass and the melodic wind were exhilarating to listen to. The morning was a joy to attend, and the musicians are well on the way for a fantastic performance.
