Recently the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra, directed by Head of Strings Elizabeth Layton, gave an impromptu pop-up performance at lunchtime in the Hub to an enthusiastic (if somewhat surprised) audience of university staff and students! They performed works by Holst, Respighi and Telemann, featuring 3rd year viola student Andrew Crothers.
Elizabeth commented, ‘It’s really important that as musicians, we remember to come out to the community and not always expect our audiences to come to us. Many here today will not have heard an orchestra live before and the response to this event has been wonderful. We hope that some of our listeners may venture over to Elder Hall and join us for the Friday lunchtime concert series, which are of course free for University students.’
Visit the Elder Hall website for more information about the concerts, and maybe keep an eye out for future musical flashmobs too!
