After thirty years of development, digital cameras really took off in 2003 and since have managed to all but wipe out film cameras. The multi-billion dollar digital camera industry is founded on enormous advances in optical sensors, micro-motors, displays, system-on-chip integration, data compression, memory devices, high efficiency energy storage and human-machine interaction. In this talk we take a look inside the digital camera and show how this one device relates to studies in electronics, computer systems, telecommunications, avionics and sustainable energy. We also look at some of the emerging applications and challenges in law enforcement and security. You won’t believe what we can find out about you.
