Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade: Council on Australia-Latin America Relations (COALAR) Grants 2015

The Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) was established by the Australian Government in 2001 to enhance Australia’s economic, political and social relations with Latin America.

COALAR supports innovative projects that have clear outcomes and seek to ensure the benefits of such activities are spread as widely as possible.COALAR grants are intended to provide seed funds for innovative proposals for projects relevant to the following areas:

  • Mutual Economic Support
  • Education and Research
  • Sport, Culture and Tourism

In this 2015-16 Grant round the Council will also consider favorably projects that:

  • Complement the Brazil 2016 Country Focus Year, or
  • Encourage artists to consider including other Latin American countries, in addition to Brazil, in their program.

Funding & Duration

Projects may be either long-term or short-term.

Funding totalling $392,000 (excluding GST) has been awarded to 14 projects across the priority areas of business, education, sustainability, tourism and culture (including sport).

93 Expressions of Interest were submitted in the 2014-15 Grant Round seeking over $.3 6M. 20 projects were shortlisted for further consideration.

Submission Requirements & Due Dates

  • 9 April 2015 – Expressions of Interest (EOI)  submitted directly to Sponsor.
  • Copy of EOI forwarded to the Research Branch ASAP.
  • Early July (TBC) – full applications (by invitation only) submitted to the Research Branch for internal review.
