Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi): Physics of the Observer – International Request for Proposals 2016

The Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi) has issued an international request for proposals (RFP) which targets Physics of the Observer, both in physics and also in related fields including cosmology, astrophysics, philosophy of physics, complex systems, biophysics, neuroscience, computer science, and mathematics.

 Funding & Duration

While there is no maximum amount one may request, the anticipated average research awards may be around $80,000 (approx. AUD $112,000) total over the life of the award (one to two years maximum), with outreach awards substantially smaller. Grant awards are sent to the Primary Investigator’s (PI) institute and the institute’s administration is responsible for disbursing the awards to the PI.

Grants will be available for research between August 2016 and ending July 2018.

Eligibility

Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are eligible to apply.

Submission Requirements & Due Dates

  • 20 January 2016 – Initial proposal submitted directly to Sponsor
  • Copy of Initial proposal forwarded to the Research Branch ASAP.
  • 4 May 2016 – full applications (by invitation only) submitted to the Research Branch for internal review.
