Australian-German Association: Goethe Fellowship 2016

The AGA-Goethe Fellowship is an annual award which supports young Australians to undertake a research project in Germany and report on their work on returning to Australia.

Its aim is to foster closer relationships between Australia and Germany, and assist with the development of future community-leaders.

Candidates may apply for either a Fellowship alone or a Fellowship with a German language course.

The Fellowships will be offered in the following broad areas in 2016:

  • Fellowship 1 –  Business / Law / Politics / Engineering
  • Fellowship 2 – Arts / Culture / Literature / Music / Medicine

Funding & Duration

Fellowships are made available by the Australian German Association with the Goethe-Institut providing one 8-week language course at a Goethe-Institut.

Each fellowship also includes a grant of AUD $6,000 towards a study tour in Germany (typically at least 4 weeks), visiting companies/institutions in the special interest field of the Awardee.

Reimbursement of a return economy airfare from Australia to Germany is also included.

Eligibility

The candidate will either hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or have met the requirements for graduation at the time of application, with the expectation of graduating by 1 August 2016.

For the candidate to be able to undertake the research phase without the German language course they must possess sufficient German language proficiency to be able to communicate effectively in their area of research.

To be considered for the German language course, the candidate must have a good working knowledge of the German language, but be below fluency so as to benefit from the German language course.
