As an outcome of the inaugural Australia–Singapore Joint Strategic Dialogue on Innovation and Science on 26 August 2016 in Canberra, the two governments agreed to support two joint research workshops, one on data science and one on marine science, within the next twelve months.
The aim of these workshops is to allow research institutions and researchers in both countries to explore potential projects, research programs and funding avenues to boost collaboration in these two priority areas.
Funding & Duration
Discussions between various participants have led to the Singapore Government offering to host both workshops in Singapore, with a suggestion that both should be in February or March of next year.
The Australian Government has a contract with the Australian Academy of Science to support Australian participation in certain identified workshops arising from government-to-government joint meetings, including these two workshops. This funding will allow the government to assist with travel and accommodation costs—the exact extent of support will depend on many details yet to be confirmed, such as numbers travelling.
Eligibility
It is anticipated that senior researchers and research managers will participate in the workshops. Institutional representatives should have some level of authority to commit to at least preliminary exploration of possible relationships and projects, and should have good working knowledge of their institution’s capacities in the field and of the Australian and international research funding landscape.
