The Gene Technology Regulator has initiated a technical review of the Gene Technology Regulations 2001 to provide clarity about whether organisms developed using a range of new technologies are subject to regulation as genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and to ensure that new technologies are regulated in a manner commensurate with the risks they pose.
The Regulator is currently inviting submissions on proposed amendments to the Regulations in a public consultation for the Technical Review of the Regulations. The consultation documents are available on the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OTGR) website.
Submissions
The University of Adelaide Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is preparing a submission. If you wish to contribute to the IBC’s submission, please address the consultation questions provided in the Consultation Quick Guide and email your comments to ibc@adelaide.edu.au by 7 February 2018.
As this is a public consultation, individuals are welcome to submit comments directly to the OGTR. Please email your submission to OGTR@health.gov.au or mail it to: The Regulations Review, The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (MDP 54), GPO Box 9848, Canberra ACT 2601. Submissions must be received by 21 February 2018. The IBC would also appreciate receiving a copy of your submission.
