US Department of Energy: Materials and Chemical Sciences Research for Quantum Information Science Department of Energy

The US Department of Energy invites applications for its call on materials and chemical sciences research for quantum information science. This supports research for public benefit in materials and chemical sciences to advance understanding of quantum phenomena in systems that could be used for QIS, and the use of quantum computing in chemical and materials science research.

The total budget for the programme is USD $24M. Up to 30 awards, worth between USD $150,000 and USD $1.5M each for up to three years, are available.

Funding & Duration

Research Grant Awards are expected to be made for a period of up to three years.

The award size will depend on the number of meritorious applications and the availability of appropriated funds, but an estimate per award has been provided as follows:

Ceiling – USD $1.5M per year (approx AUD $1.93M)
Floor  – USD $150,000 per year (approx AUD $193,000)


All types of applicants are eligible to apply, except federally funded research and development centre contractors and non-profit organisations described in section 501c of the Internal Revenue Code.
