Government of Canada: Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships 2019

These support postdoctoral applicants who will contribute to Canada’s economic, social, and research-based growth.

The areas of research supported are health, natural sciences and engineering, and social sciences, and humanities.

Funding & Duration

Fellowships are worth CAD $70,000 (approx AUD $72,000) each per year for two years.


Candidates may be of any nationality and must hold a PhD, a PhD-equivalent or health professional degree. Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have obtained their degree from a Canadian university may hold their fellowship at a Canadian or foreign institution.

Non-Canadian applicants or Canadian citizens and permanent residents who obtained their qualifications from a foreign university must hold their fellowship at a Canadian institution. Applicants must not hold a tenure-track or tenured faculty position, nor can they be on leave from such a position. Eligible host institutions are universities, affiliated research hospitals, and colleges or non-profit organisations with a strong research mandate and capacity.
