Wellcome Trust / UK Department for International Development: Epidemic Preparedness – Social Science Research Protocols

The Wellcome Trust and the UK Department for International Development invite preliminary applications for their call on epidemic preparedness – social science research protocols. This supports social science researchers who want to develop new standardised ways to conduct research for epidemic preparedness and response.

The purpose of this funding is to support proposals that generate new innovative and systematic ways to conduct social science research in contexts of epidemic preparedness and response.

Funding & Duration

A total of £2M (approx AUD $3.6M) is available to support several awards of two-year duration.

PIs working in HEIs and non-profit research institutions in UK, Republic of Ireland, low- or middle-income countries, and the rest of the world may apply. PIs from low- or middle-income countries are especially encouraged to apply.

Studies should include researchers and public health professionals based in institutions located in countries affected by pathogens under consideration. Priority is given to proposals that are practical, useable and implementable by those wanting to carry out social science research during an outbreak response and are designed to address key priority pathogens.
