German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD): Short Term Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates

DAAD Short Term Grants enable candidates from Australia or New Zealand to conduct research or attend a course at a German higher education institution or non-university research institute. The primary aim of the programme is to promote research projects within the context of doctoral programmes.

Funding & Duration

Grants are worth €1,200 per month (approx. AUD $1,900) for doctoral candidates or postdocs and €850 (approx. AUD $1,300) per month for graduates, over one to six months. Insurance and a travel allowance is also covered.

Eligibility

Applicants should hold a master’s degree by the time they commence the grant-supported research. In exceptional cases, graduates holding a bachelor’s degree or already holding a doctorate may be considered. Applicants should not have graduated any longer than six years before the application deadline. For postdoctoral candidates, no more than four years may have passed since obtaining their PhD. Doctoral candidates should not have started their doctoral degree any longer than three years previously. Applicants who have been resident in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application are not eligible.
