Unemployment rate rises in October

The national unemployment rate rose by 0.2 points to 5.4 per cent in October (seasonally adjusted terms).

Employment growth was insufficient to offset a rise in unemployment associated with an increase in labor force participation. Total employment rose by 29,700 persons (0.3 per cent) in October, while the number of unemployed rose by 32,100 persons (5.2 per cent).

South Australia’s unemployment rate also rose in October, by 0.2 points to 5.7 per cent. Employment rose by 3,800 persons (0.5 per cent), while unemployment rose by 1,600 persons (3.4 per cent).
