Our entire Year 12 Economics cohort recently enjoyed both intellectual and gastronomical treats in attending the biannual economic briefing of the South Australian Centre for Economic Studies (SACES). This occurred during a lunchtime engagement at the Crowne Plaza. Statistics and charts relating to recent trends in the global, national and state economies mirrored much of our recent course work, which Martin found ‘insightful’, and Ethan considered ‘thought-provoking’.
The key-note speaker, Mr. Gary Bowditch (Executive Director, Better Infrastructure Initiative, University of Sydney), discussed difficulties related to infrastructure decision-making in Australia. Nick noted that ‘to move in the right direction it is clear that productivity and efficiency are essential to the economy’.
Holly summed up the outing with the view that the presentation will prove ‘useful to our studies this year and in the future’.
We thank the head of SACES, Assoc. Prof. Michael O’Neil, for continuing to give USC’s Economics students an outstanding opportunity to engage with economic matters of interest, which are prepared for SACES members in the private and public sectors. Please note that ours is the only group of students invited to attend, and we are enormously grateful for the privilege granted to USC Year 12 Economics students.
