Bob Holloway was one of the founding staff members of University Senior College and retired from his role as Principal at the end of June this year. He arrived at the conception stages of this exciting and innovative school and worked collegially with staff as the SACE Coordinator and teacher of Chemistry until he took the role of Principal in 2006.
Those who ever spoke with Bob will know the unwavering passion he has to ensure students at USC have a unique and challenging senior secondary experience, leading to university entrance. Bob’s passion for USC has culminated in the school being considered as a leading light of senior secondary education in our state, and one which is recognised as providing a real and authentic pathway to university. An outcome of Bob’s work is that USC is one of the most successful feeder schools into the university sector in South Australia.
Under Bob’s leadership the Jordan building was developed; the curriculum was consolidated and many past scholars have taken positions around the world, leading learning and following inspirational career pathways. As a teacher, the students admired his expert knowledge in Chemistry, and as a leader in and of the school, students saw Bob as an inspirational mentor, heavily involved in the students successes and their achievement at USC and beyond. As a champion for the school, Bob advocated for USC in many forums, maintaining his belief that the USC model is a significant enabler for young people.
It was clearly evident in his professional life that Bob was passionate about learning and supporting students and staff, he led by example and showed the USC community, along with the wider community, that life is balanced when there are true passions and interest beyond the school door. Bob worked across educational sectors, sharing his expertise but also found time to support his family in their pursuits. These attributes are symbols of life long learning and someone who is interested in others and supporting people to be the best they can be.
On behalf of the school community I wish to sincerely thank Bob for his dedication, drive and passion for USC. The school is a leading light in education because of his work and vision.
We will continue to work in support of the students in our care and keep the ideals that built USC in the forefront of our work.
Thank you Bob Holloway.
