On Thursday 5 April, USC students competed as a team at the School Sport SA Track and Field Championships for the first time. The day began with a glorious 3km run from Bonnie Doran who started strongly and lead the whole race. Many students followed Bonnie’s lead and won their events or set personal best times.
As the temperature rose David showed his tenacity to comfortably win the 400m race a short time after competing in the 1500m and winning the 800m. Doris was very proud to be the first USC international student to compete at the event. Sol “enjoyed every second of his 3 km event” and Seb commented that the day was “a lot of fun”.
Students were also successful in their field events with Spencer winning his High Jump event, Chloe Jenkin winning her Discus and Javelin events, and Taleala McCarthy winning her Shot Put and Discus events in addition to achieving a standard of excellence in both events which is awarded to the 5% of competitors in the state.
The very successful day ended with the exciting relay races.
The students were great ambassadors for USC. As well as showcasing their sporting prowess their dedication to study was also on display.
As the inaugural team, the following students are now the current USC champions and record holders in their respective events.
