Singaporean President receives honorary doctorate

I was delighted to join Chancellor, the Honourable Robert Hill AC to welcome His Excellency Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore, to his alma mater to be awarded an honorary doctorate last week.

Dr Tan graduated with a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Adelaide in the 1960’s

At a special conferral ceremony on Tuesday 17 June, Dr Tan received the University’s highest honour  – Doctor of the University (honoris causa) – in recognition of his contribution towards Singapore’s development into a global hub of scientific research and education, and his exceptional contribution to public life.

This was a glorious occasion and a wonderful opoortunity to pay hommage to one of the University’s most distinguished graduates.  It was also a special time for our current Singaporean students who were able to meet with the President and Mrs Tan following the conferral ceremony.
