Quitting Social Media Apps

One day about a month ago, I got a bit angry at myself not being productivity on my assignments but kept rolling the social media apps, so I deleted them all. It feels like deleting a parallel world.

The thing I didn’t delete was the dialogue function on WeChat since I need to contact my families and many of my friends on it. However, I hide all the posts. Messenger from Facebook was kept, too. I got mixed feelings after all the actions and I wanted to share with you.

Stage 1: Released

As I said, it’s a parallel world, and it’s also a noisy world. Like in the Weibo (similar to Twitter), people comment under the hot news, with arguments. And in the WeChat (similar to Snapchat), people keep posting their latest updates, such as where did they go, what they are thinking or eating. They are just silent noise, but still noisy in your head.

So I felt released once I deleted all of them.

Stage 2: Bored

We have to admit that social media apps did bring us some fun. I miss those cute babies, cute animals, and funny or warm things people share. Gone with the noise, the beautiful things have gone, too. I use to feel less stressful rolling the posts, but I can’t do it anymore.

I felt less fun. But I didn’t get them back.

Stage 3: Focused

Instead of looking at the social media apps before or in the middle of my study, currently, I can focus on my assignments and many other tasks. I can feel my progress on both concentration and work I have done. I guess it is impossible to get the advantage of something but not affected by its side effects.

It’s a good decision. My productivity came back like what I expected a month ago.

(The process of quitting the social media sounds similar to stories people quitting drugs, but maybe it is similar)
